It's Week Seven on this season of Lifetime's "Project Runway" and time for my next installment of my "Top 5 OMG Moments" Video as well as my Recap of the week. This past week's episode involved a fun trip to Universal Resorts Orlando and a Streetwear Challenge...

Here are my Top 5 "OMG Moments" of this past week's "Project Runway":

#1....OMG!  Time For A Trip!  In the Beginning of the episode, Heidi announced that she was sending the designers on a trip! They were all going to Universal Orlando Resorts! While the designers seemed excited, we all know that a Project Runway trip to Universal Orlando would NOT involve Lazy River Rafting, eating Funnel Cake Sundaes or a trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Instead...

They were greeted by Tim looking like a SuitSupply.com model, and given their next challenge.  Most likely, the only real R & R the designers got was sitting on their 3-hour flight from New York to Orlando and back--in their uncomfortable Economy Class seats. Hopefully, they got to recline!

#2....OMG! Roller Coaster Reachin'  "Project Runway" REEEEALLY had to twist themselves into a Jumbo-Sized, Theme Park Pretzel to somehow incorporate a Universal Studios ride into a Streetwear Challenge!  But.....I guess we should all be thankful that those poor designers weren't tasked with re-designing the uniforms for the Jurassic Park Cafe! Dinosaur Couture anyone?

#3....OMG!  Erin! Snap Out of It!  After being on the Top 4 times and winning twice, Erin has landed in the bottom, 2 weeks in a row!  After last week's "Lion King" Costume mess, unfortunately, she spent this last week embroidering what looked like a combination of moss and throw-up on a pair of shorts.  From far away, her model looked as if she got sick on a Universal Roller coaster Ride. It's time to "Refresh" and Re-boot" GURL! SNAP OUT OF IT!

#4....OMG!  Ummm, Why is Cornelius Safe?!  I've disagreed many times with the judges, but I've almost always understood them. This time, I was at a complete loss. Cornelius should have gone home. While Brik's was a mixed-print, Cirque Du Soleil-adjacent outfit...it was, at least, well made.  But Cornelius' was Hip-Hop Cheap and constructed so poorly it really did look like a 1st Semester Fashion School Project.  I'm sorry judges, but WHY DIDN'T CORNELIUS GO HOME???

#5....OMG!  Surprise, Surprise, Surprise...SURPRISE!  Just as the judges surprised me with their elimination, they threw me for a bit of a loop with their choice of winner.  I agreed with the Top 2 being Laurence and Nathalia, but... My personal favorite this week was Nathalia's oversized, bat-inspired, dolman sleeve coat-and-pant look.  While I did like Laurence's red leather bomber jacket, her pants admittedly were a bit "droopy drawers"...But with that being said, I still give Laurence a big FELICITACIONS for getting her 2nd WIN of the season! SMILE MISS LAURENCE! YOU WON!

Season 15,
Episode 7 Recap: Fashion Jungle

Last week on
“Project Runway,” the designers were tasked with creating cocktail wear, but
now it is time to take a design u-turn and see if the designers can do the opposite:
streetwear. This is an especially ironic twist since last week’s eliminated
designer was Tasha, the self-proclaimed “streetwear designer” who just couldn’t
do cocktail. If she would have just stuck it out for one more week, she would
have gotten a chance to prove herself. But alas, it was not meant to be, and
now it’s time for the 10 remaining designers to show if they’ve got the
know-how to make a woman chic in the Urban Jungle.

The episode
begins with an out of left field montage of the designers riding
the Universal Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster. Right as I am
about to ask, “What is going on?” the episode rewinds to eight hours earlier.
Heidi saunters onto the runway as the designers look on. Miss Klum asks a very
tired group how they are feeling, and they muster a feigned, “Great!” She then
announces that they are all taking a trip to Universal Orlando Resorts where
Tim will meet them for their next challenge.

The
designers have arrived in sunny Florida where...

This past week on Lifetime's "Project Runway", it was time for the designers to attend an Absolut Elyx party. As we know, there's no such thing as a party on "Project Runway" since this one, of course, involved a challenge: To create a "luxurious" Cocktail Dress. For some reason, a lot of this season's remaining designers struggled...

#1 OMG!.....There’s No Such Thing As A Party…On PROJECT RUNWAY! While I’m sure the designers were THRILLED to get a YUMMY Absolut Elyx cocktail—or two! We all know there’s NO SUCH THING AS A PARTY…on “Project Runway”! Listen, I love a good cocktail as much as the next person BUT…when you’re on “Project Runway”, Always know that... A) You’re being filmed, and B) You’re AT WORK! Order that drink, pretend to sip it, but know this isn’t really a PARTEEE. And a Challenge could be coming around the corner! In this case it was in the room and Heidi and Tim gave the designers the task of designing a COCKTAIL DRESS!

#2 OMG!.....Curious Commonalities??  This week, Jenni was making a cocktail dress using sequin appliqué that was VERY SIMILAR to details Erin has done previously, including last week on that fabulous yellow-and-mauve coat she made…Even Erin was like “Ummmm, that looks familiar!” Listen, it’s totally normal to get inspired by other designers in the workroom—your eyes wander and unconsciously (or consciously), design commonalities do occur. Does that make it OK? Talk amongst yourselves.

#3 OMG!.....Find Your Voice!  Whether you’re designing Streetwear, Ready-to-Wear, Activewear, Cocktail… or even an Unconventional Materials Challenge, the key to success is to FIND YOUR VOICE. In other words, know who you are and then apply that to the task—as opposed to forcing the TASK onto Who You Are as a designer. If you are a Streetwear designer designing for a Cocktail Challenge, make sure your voice is heard…

Sooo TASHA: Instead of fighting it, I would have suggested doing a luxe Hoodie-inspired dress with side pockets, ribbed banding and a copper sequined Absolut Pineapple back detail. Now THAT would be something I'd like to see!

#4 OMG!.....The Cocktail Struggle Is Real!! OK, now following along this same subject: Why was it SOOOOO difficult for A LOT of the designers to make a Cocktail Dress?? 6 out of the ELEVEN designers either kind-of failed, or failed! Exhibit A, B, C, D, E, and F: Cornelius' wasn’t cocktail but rather Daytime Wedding Guest at the Hamptons; Nathalia was Figure Skating Pageant; Dexter went Hoochie Vegas; Mah-jing almost did a Dripping Blood Dress!; Erin's was 90's feathered and brocade costume-y...And Tasha…well, I don't even know what to call that! What happened? Were they hung-over from too many Absolut Elyx Cocktails? As Zac said, it was disappointing, underwhelming and cocktail hour un-creative.

#5 OMG!....My Winner!  While I liked  Rik’s amazing bartender-inspired leather apron dress and Jenni’s 1920’s speakeasy-inspired satin and sequined shift dress, my favorite was—by far!—Laurence’s Little Black Dress which was based on a Chesterfield leather sofa. I loved how she ingeniously used the quilted details of that sofa and made exaggerated sleeves out of them: TRES FAB! If I was a judge, Laurence would have been my Top Vote Getter!...For Sure!

Season 15, Episode 6 Recap: Unhappy Hour

“Project Runway” loves a party. But as we’ve learned time
and time again, a party on “Project Runway” is never truly a party. This
season, in fact, began with a soiree welcoming the new designers, but as they
quickly found out, the party was anything but a celebration and instead, the
source of their first unconventional materials challenge. This week’s episode
began yet again with a festive event, but quickly the designers’ happy hour
turned to work hour when they were tasked with creating a cocktail look inspired
by their surroundings. Grab your favorite drink kids, cause it’s the cocktail
dress challenge recap.

The episode begins with a press party at Absolut Elyx House,
a well-appointed apartment/events space in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. Heidi, Nina
and Zac are there along with bloggers interviewing them. Soon enough, Tim Gunn
arrives with the designers in tow. As they are all enjoying their Elyx
pineapple copper-mug’ed Absolut drinks, all I can think of is that they
shouldn’t get too liquored up since… there’s no such thing as a “party” on
“Project Runway.”

It's time for my "Top 5 OMG Moments" and RECAP of this past week's "Project Runway"! The challenge involved Mary Kay, the makeup sponsor, the dreaded first Team Challenge, and there was a pitch-your-collection-concept twist thrown into the mix. Guess which moments were my Top 5?? Just guess. OK, if you can't...

My "Top 5 OMG Moments" of Episode 5 "Project Runway":

#1 OMG....It's The Dreaded Team Challenge!  Most everybody on "Project Runway" hates the Team Challenges.  OK, maybe "hate" is too strong of a word...let's just say "doesn't look forward to"....mainly because you have to be responsible for yourself AND you also have to make sure everyone else on your team is somewhat pulling their "Design Weight"...

There are reasons why "Project Runway" includes Team Challenges on the show. While, yes in a "real" fashion business, one must be able to work on a team and collaborate, but on the show, it's really there to create more stress and possibly have some "throwing-under-the-bus-moments".

 #2 OMG....Project Shark Tank!  So...As part of this week's Team Challenge, the teams had to pitch their collection concept to a group of "mystery investors" who turned out to be Heidi, Nina and Zac. This was an interesting idea and most likely a way of giving an "Amuse Bouche" to a new show: "Project Runway: Fashion Start Up".  The new series will showcase aspiring Fashion & Beauty entrepreneurs pitching their concepts for the chance to secure funds from a panel of investors...who, By The Way, are not Heidi, Nina or Zac!....Interesante! Will you watch??

#3 OMG....Hashtag 310 Power!  The boys of room 310--Alex, Roberi and Rik might have been on the upswing after being the Top 3 from the last challenge....but unfortunately, none of that helped them from making their "Everyday Business Woman" look more like she was heading to The Club instead of the Boardroom. With the help of their other roommate Cornelius, his bestie Natalia and outsider Mah-Jing...Team Unity turned their "Power Suits" into "Party Pieces" completely missing their initial concept and landing themselves on the bottom.

#4 OMG....You're Not An Outsider To Me Mah-Jing!  Team Unity might not have won this week, but outsider Mah-Jing came out on top and seemed to have a break-through with this challenge. His belted, asymmetrical, patchwork vest with cropped trousers was chic, sophisticated and "kind of" close to a working women's ensemble. Kudos to Mah-Jing...let's see if he can keep it up and get himself a win!

#5 OMG....TEAM BOUTON MVP'S!  Laurence's razor sharp leather jacket and Erin's LUXE highlighter yellow and mauve coat were the true stars of the Team Bouton collection. But it was Dexter's winning pitch and his ability to race around the workroom in those wedge platforms, while helping his team, that secured him the well-deserved MVP WIN!! Congratulations Team Bouton and Congratulations Mr. Herpatology!!

Season 15, Episode 5 Recap: United We Stand

After last week’s demanding swimwear challenge, the
designers learn that it is time for the dreaded team challenge. Team challenges
are always a tricky subject on the show. I’ve said this many times during all
my seasons writing recaps here (and in addition to my own personal experience
as a contestant): it’s rare when there is designer unity on a team challenge.
But this week, there was. Did team camaraderie guarantee cohesion and success?
Well…Yes and no. Time to recap.

The episode begins with Alex discussing “310 Power,”
chitchatting about how great it is that Rik, Roberi and he are roommates and,
in addition, that they were the top three in the previous week. A quick photo
montage of a younger, more “punk-y” Alex follows. Once again, I think, “Uh oh.”
Maybe I’m really getting too savvy for the editors or the editors need to
rethink their formula, who knows.

Tim Gunn greets the designers on stage, introducing Luis
Casco, Mary Kay Global Beauty Ambassador. He is there to announce the Mary Kay
challenge, of course. Before discussing the details, Casco says that it is “all
about challenging your passion for fashion and combining it with an
entrepreneurial mindset that Mary Kay just embraces.” Right as I was about to
yell, “What the heck is he talking about?” Tim enlightens me and...

Episode 2 Recap: Everyday Fab

Last week on “Project Runway” the season began with an unconventional runway, with the contestants creating looks out of party materials, challenging the designers to be super creative on day one. This week it was all about designing for the “everyday woman.” How some of the designers approached this challenge traversed the gamut from uninspired to super-drop crotch un-realness. Time to discuss this week’s visions for a supposed “everyday fab” girl.

As the episode begins, Heidi saunters onto the runway to congratulate the designers on surviving the first challenge and adds that they all look like they could use “fresh air.” She tells them that Tim Gunn—and a special guest—will be waiting for them at a park, concluding by telling them that today will be “FAB-U-LOUS!” Hmm, let me guess, this is the JustFab Challenge…

Moments later, Tim is in the park introducing Chief Marketing Officer of JusfFab, Traci Inglis (yep, I was right!). He tells the contestants that there are over four million women in Manhattan who are getting dressed every morning, with Inglis adding that JustFab’s goal is “to make women of every age, every height, every size, look and feel fabulous.” On cue, 100 women—of all ages and sizes—walk into the park highlighting the tableaux for the next challenge: to create a look for the everyday woman, making them the most fabulous version of herself. Tim warns the designers to remember that versatility and diversity among their clientele does not mean “hum-drum.” They are creating FASHION. The winning look, Inglis says, will be reproduced and sold on JustFab.com (no word of the designer making any profit from this). I must say that the strangest thing about this presentation and challenge, is the fact that these hundreds of women presented to the designers are just for show. I first assumed that the designers would pick from the women and design an outfit based on their body silhouette. But instead, the designers will just be presenting their looks on the “everyday” 6 foot tall, size 2 runway models...

PROJECT RUNWAY RECAPS....."Project Runway" Season 14 Recaps: Episode 13 Pre-Finale Episode Photo Blog Recap!

In this week's Part 1 Finale Episode of Lifetime Network's "Season 14 "Project Runway" , the episode began with the "Will Tim Use His 'Tim Save'" on Edmond, who was eliminated...And naturally, just as I (along with most of the viewers and fans) predicted...

And The Best Acting Award Goes To: Tim used his "Tim Save"...but before he did, Tim did his best to get an Emmy for Outstanding Acting in a Reality Show, dragging it out as long as possible and looking quite emotional and perturbed...until he announced that he would indeed use his Save.



Heidi announced to the Final Four that they would have 7 weeks and be given $9,000 to create a ten look collection. So, up first were the Tim Visits. First up, Tim flew to San Diego to visit Ashley where he ended up...

Donning an apron and making tortillas--Tim Gunn with designer Ashley Nell Tipton's family, in the kitchen, making tortillas--Episode 13 Season 14 "Project Runway"

Then, he went to San Francisco to check in on Candice:

A Cold, Fogged-in Beach: Not sure why Candice--or the producers--chose a cold fogged-in beach as the backdrop for the meeting with Candice and her children and mom--especially with so many other gorgeous sights in San Francisco. Who knows??



Next, he visited Kelly in Massachusetts and naturally she took him to the DELI!!!

Kelly From the Deli: The owner of "Bob's Italian food" Deli, where Kelly worked--presents Tim with his very own Big "Gunn" Milanese Sandwich--Episode 13 Season 14 "Project Runway"



Finally, Tim heads to Atlanta to visit Edmond:

The Smallest Restaurant Booth EVER: Tim Gunn with Edmond and his family--Episode 13 Season 14 "Project Runway"

Welcome Back Designers: After they returned from making their collections, Tim gave them one final "twist": They had to present a 3-Look preview to Nina, Heidi and Zac and one of those looks had to be new (as opposed to one of the ones they made back at home)...



The results were mixed...

Edmond Newton: Not cohesive, one too many ruffles and not enough SEX! I just wanted to rip that gathered ruffle off that black gown! Oh and that bow on the other one as well

Candice Cuoco: Witchy Asiana. The judges hated the hat (me too!) and that printed red outfit. The latter one looked dated and what was up with those Fashion School 101 Basic Bustiers? I did like that lace and leather coat though.

Kelly Dempsey: Her "Studio 54 Meets new Age" grouping was fun but the judges thought it wasn't luxurious enough. They were right. One could find these things at H & M...or a "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" revival!

Ashley Nell Tipton: Ashley's "Mexico City in the 1950's"-inspired Plus Size looks were universally liked. The judges just complained about her construction and fit. Just from looking at their 3-Look Previews, Ashley's was the strongest.



We will see who prevails next week and wins Season 14 "Project Runway"...Until then, here's my complete RECAP for this Part 1 Finale Episode:

Season 14, Episode 13: And Then There Were Four...Again

Last week's episode ended with a "to save or not to
save Edmond" silence. I, along with anyone else watching it with a
pulse, guessed correctly what was going to happen. This episode had the
designers going home to create their collections, the much anticipated
Tim visits, a freezing beach (in San Francisco?!), a tortilla making
party, and the most cramped restaurant booth known to man. And then
there was the collection preview judging that didn’t go so well. Lots to
discuss.

We begin with Edmond waiting for his
goodbye hug from Tim. We all knew what was going to happen, but Mr. Gunn
did some of his best acting to date in an attempt to heighten the
emotional drama in the room and drag out the moment as long as he could.
Tim saves Edmond and all four are going to NY Fashion Week. They all
meet up back at the runway stage where Heidi tells them that they have
seven weeks and are getting $9,000 to create a 10-piece collection back
at home. Heidi also makes a point to advise Ashley to consider creating a
plus size collection, something she’s wanted to do all along. 

Five
weeks later and Tim visits the designers in their homes, otherwise
known as "time for Tim to rack up his frequent flyer mileage points." He
begins in San Diego with Ashley...
